ANIMAL PHRASES BEE PHRASES Meaning clusters Bees are insects which produce honey. Honey is sweet food. Bees live organized lives. There is a queen bee and many worker bees. Worker bees fly from flower to flower to pick the flowers' nectar. They take the nectar to their nest to make honey. Bees have their own language. They communicate with sounds and movements. Bees reproduce from eggs. Bees will attack people if they are threatened. Bee stings are very painful. Beekeepers use smoke to control the bees. It is best to stay away from bees. -------------------------- CHICKEN PHRASES Meaning clusters Chickens are domestic birds. They are small and do not weigh more than 4 pounds. They cannot fly high with their small wings. Chickens eat worms and a variety of grains. Chickens have two feet small eyes and a beak. Chickens reproduce through eggs. Eggs are food for people. Hens sing every time they lay eggs. The hen stays in her nest all day and night long when she lays a certain amount of eggs. She takes care of her eggs and keeps them warm with her own body. The hen leaves her nest only to eat food and drink water. At the end of 21 days the eggs become chicks. Chicks break the shell and come out of their nest. The hen covers them under her wings to keep them warm. ------------------------ CONDOR PHRASES Meaning clusters A condor is one of the biggest and strongest birds. Condors fly very high. Condors live in the high mountains in South America. The male condor has white feathers in the neck. This animal is one or one and a half meters tall. Each of his wings is one meter long. The condor's feathers are black to protect him from the high altitude cold. The condor has small eyes, a red crest, big claws, and a strong curved beak. A condor eats meat and attacks animals to feed himself. Condors feed their chicks until they can hunt for themselves. Very few llamas have wool in only one color. People use llamas' wool to make elegant and warm clothes. Llamas' wool is white, black, gray, dark or light brown. Llamas are mammals they eat grass and feed their babies with milk. Llamas are noble and friendly animals. Llamas are useful to carry some loads on their backs. Llamas have four legs and can run long distances. Llamas have big eyes, long necks and walk elegantly. Llamas live in herds in some areas of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and part of Chile.
